Big, Bold, Banner!

A friend of mine approached me to design a big, bold, banner to for her business. This banner was to appeal to the Hillside Music Festival crowd, and convey the fresh and healthy approach of the food she makes.

CLGA - various projects.

I have been volunteering for the CLGA (Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives) for a bit now. Its my design and illustration skills that have been most utilized so far!

We created some fundraiser ideas and I designed them up. The first was a series of postcards showcasing retro images from the Archives.

Then I had some fun doing recreations of retro buttons that are in the Archives collections. Who doesn't think its better to be gay than grumpy!

Lastly I was asked to take on the job of designing an invitation to the grand re-opening of the archives. I was given an architect's computer rendering of the new CLGA building to use on the cover of the invite but felt it didn't have the right feel for the organization. It was too modern and cold. So I took a pic of the new building and used the architects image to created a drawing of what the final house is expected to look like. A nice wee hand sketch seemed to do the trick.

I don't normally draw buildings and haven't in a really long time, but my grandfather was brilliant at it, I'd like to think he'd have enjoyed this sketch ;) This one is for you Papa!

I love commissioned work!

I was approached by a friend of mine to create a piece of art as wedding gift for a very special couple. I love open ended commissioned work like this. I especially like the challenge of trying to make it specific and meaningful to the people it will be gifted to.

The animals involved had significance to the couple, and the date of their wedding was tucked under the foot of the bear.

Its a digital piece but I tried to make it feel as organic as I could.
